Gettysburg by the Numbers

Gettysburg by the Numbers is a web-based way to learn about the numerical data behind the Battle of Gettysburg, targeted to middle school students. The site provides a detailed view of the statistics about the battle, and illustrates with info-graphics, information about everything from demographics, to costs, to weather, clothing and more. The site, sponsored by the Source for Learning of Reston, Virginia, also links readers to additional vetted educational sources for more information. This project started with a database of facts about the battle. I conceived of the idea of presenting this content as a civil war style newspaper that students could interact with independently—by giving them the opportunity to click on what they found most interesting and to explore more deeply from there. I created the design, and directed the development of the info-graphics.
